 Primates and Cultural Tours in Rwanda

Day 1: Airport Pick & transfer to Nyungwe Forest

You will be picked from the airport and start with a city tour in Kigali town, of the genocide memorial centers. You will then continue with your journey and have lunch en-route at Butare, and visit Rwanda national museum as you proceed to Nyungwe forest.

Dinner and overnight at Lodge/ Guest house.

Day 2: Chimp Tracking and culture walk

After your early morning breakfast, enter the forest and start tracking the chimpanzees. You might be able to viewgolden monkey 13 species of primates as well as several species of birds.

You will then return to the Lodge/ Guest house for lunch, after which you will take a cultural walk to the local communities. You will get to know more about the local cultures through the entertainment that you will receive from these people as they sing and dance for you.

Dinner and overnight at Lodge/ Guest house.

 

Day 3: Visit to Gisenyi

After your breakfast, you will be transferred to Gisenyi town. This town has a water front and sandy beaches, which will give you a captivating feel of a tropical beach resort.

Have lunch and take a visit to the hotsprings, after which you will relax at the shores of lake Kivu in the evening.

Dinner and overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 4: Transfer to Parc National des Volcans

For the first part of your day, you will take a morning boat ride to either the “coffee island” or the Hot springs. You will have your lunch after the boat ride, and then you will be transferred

to Parc National des Volcans – home of the mountains gorillas.

Dinner and overnight at Lodge/ Guest house.

Day 5: Gorilla Tracking

After your early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters at Kinigi station for a briefing about mountain gorilla tracking. You will then set off and start tracking. It might take you 2-6 hours to encounter the gorillas but you will realize that it is worth the effort when you meet them. You will be allowed to stay with the gorillas for observation and photography for only 1 hour. After having your lunch, you will take a drive to see the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.

Day 6: Hike to Dian Fossey’s tomb

After your breakfast, you will take on a hike to the tombs of the late Dian Fossey – a researcher who spent almost 20 years studying the life and habituation of mountain gorillas.

Depending on the time of your flight, you can take a walk to Ruhengeri market and get an opportunity to buy local fabrics, art pieces and handicrafts.

You will then be transferred to the airport for your flight.
