Uganda’s Rolex

As you travel throughout Uganda, there is something new to try out, and that is a Uganda’s rolex. A rolex is an authentic Ugandan fast food containing eggs, vegetables or meat wrapped in a chapatti. Over years a rolex has been adopted on the Uganda food menu as a street snack throughout the country but was unknown to outside countries.

Thanks to the Ministry of tourism and antiquities that launched the renown snack. The state minister for tourism Godfrey Kiwanda Ssubi speaking during the Kampala rolex festival said the festival intended to create more demand for the rolex as a fast food and rolex-making as a commercial activity. The Kampala rolex festival was held last week at Uganda Museum where different top chefs showcased the different ways to make a rolex, intended bring the luxury and artistic touch into aspect. You can now order a rolex from any hotel/ restaurant round the country. The launch of the rolex will go a long way in trying to promote the snack to the global level.

A rolex was invented by a group university students, though we can’t them single out, to them, they needed a quick and pocket friendly snack, and over time a rolex was as ordinary, sold on roadside. Now that the government intervened through the Ministry of tourism, the purpose is to elevate the snack to a luxury, as  Mr. Kiwanda was witnessed saying that the government is passionate about helping to improve the quality and standard of this delicacy.

Like a sandwich, a rolex can be eaten at any time though preferably at breakfast, the snack is very healthy and made out of organic foods.

How to make a Rolex in a Ugandan way

You need one chapatti. Crack 2 eggs into a bowl; add raw cabbage/lettuce, slices of tomatoes, chopped red onion, and salt. Whisk the mixture until it’s well blended.
Preheat a large frying pan over medium-high heat. And pour cooking oil. Add the mixture (whisked eggs, cabbage, tomatoes & Onions) and spread out into a flat circle the same way you would when cooking an omelet. Let it cook for a few minutes until it turns golden brown then flip it to another side and spread out the chapatti on top of  the cooking eggs, after a few seconds wrap it up to make a rolex, alternatively you can add more toppings of raw tomatoes and red pepper if you prefer.
